Mountaintown Creek, Elijay, GA
Master Planned Residential Community
Mountaintown Creek
+/-1975 acres
Cradled in the foothills of north Georgia at the southern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies some of the most beautiful land in the Southeastern United States. These rolling hills are abundant with nature’s creations: hemlocks, white pines, and ancient oaks thrive among its peaks while rhododendron and mountain laurel spill across its clear streams and waterfalls.
Some years ago, close to Ellijay, one of the four gateway cities to the historic Chieftains Trail in northwest Georgia, we discovered what we believe to be the heart and soul of this picturesque land. Where the Coosawattee River, Mountaintown Creek and Carters Lake come together just west of Ellijay is without doubt an area of outstanding natural beauty. This nineteen hundred and seventy five acres of pristine wilderness so easily reached from Greater Atlanta presented us with a special challenge: it both reaffirmed our connection to nature and demanded of us the need for careful stewardship as we crafted a vision for its future.
The historically significant City of Ellijay, our neighbor to the east, is a rare example of a city retaining its original name and location on the site of a Native American settlement. The name “Ellijay” translated means “earth green here” and its meaning is at the core of our plans to both protect and share this exceptional place.
In our Mountaintown Creek community we have attempted to identify the ecologically sensitive land, interconnect these areas through a series of riverbank parks and greenways, and allow them
to become both the essence and roots of our community. We established areas that should be developed, and more importantly, areas that should be preserved. We have envisioned various lifestyle options for
our future residents, preserved important views and chosen amenities designed for enrichment and enjoyment of our naturally abundant resources.
With diligence, care and respect for our surroundings we hope to bring this community to life and create a new standard for the next generation of master planned communities.
Location:
5 miles west of Ellijay within approx 1000ft of Rte 282.
Just over 1 hour to 285 in Atlanta [ring road around the inner city area]. From Ellijay to Atlanta it is all highway [at least 4 lanes]. Rte 515 out of Ellijay, becomes I 575 which in turn joins I75 leading into Atlanta.
Ellijay is located northwest of Atlanta in the foothills. It is one of the best examples of an old town successfully revived complete with town square and boutique style shopping. It is becoming very popular with Atlantans, Floridians [Florida half-backs] as well as the retiring baby boomer set. Easily accessible from Atlanta it is a center for natural outdoor recreational pursuits such as boating, fishing, canoeing, and white water rafting, and hiking. Gilmer County has only one sub-standard golf course and the County is encouraging the owners of M’Town Creek to offer championship golf.
